FAQ

Ocean Freight Questions

What is the transit time for ocean freight?

Transit times vary by route:
  • Transatlantic (NA → Europe): 18–25 days
  • Transpacific (NA → Asia): 20–30 days
  • Europe → Asia-Pacific: 25–35 days
  • Intra-Asia: 7–14 days
These times include port handling and customs clearance. Actual sailing time is typically 2–3 days shorter.

What is the minimum shipment for ocean freight?

For FCL (Full Container Load), you need enough product to fill or partially fill a standard container — typically 5,000 kg+. For LCL (Less-than-Container Load), we accept shipments as small as 100 kg, which are consolidated with other cargo in shared containers.

How do reefer containers maintain temperature?

Reefer containers have built-in refrigeration units that maintain a precise temperature (typically 2°C–8°C for cannabis products) throughout the voyage. The units are powered by the vessel's electrical system and monitored remotely. We also install independent IoT temperature loggers as backup with real-time alerting.

How much cheaper is ocean freight vs air freight?

Ocean freight is typically 50–70% cheaper per kilogram than air freight for the same route. For example:
  • Air freight Toronto → Rotterdam: ~$7.50/kg (Priority)
  • Ocean freight Toronto → Rotterdam: ~$1.20/kg (FCL)
The savings increase significantly with volume. For a 20-ton shipment, ocean freight can save $100,000+ compared to air.

Do you handle Bill of Lading and port customs?

Yes. Our ocean freight service includes complete documentation and customs management:
  • Bill of Lading (B/L) preparation and issuance
  • Export customs clearance at origin port
  • Import customs clearance at destination port
  • Duty and tax coordination
  • Port handling and storage management
  • Drayage (truck transport to/from port)

Can I track my container in real-time?

Yes. Our platform provides real-time container tracking including:
  • Vessel position on interactive map
  • Port arrival and departure updates
  • Temperature and humidity readings (reefer containers)
  • ETA updates based on vessel speed and port congestion
  • Customs clearance status
Tracking is available via web dashboard, mobile app, and API.
